LONDON, November 21- England and Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed he is open to playing in a deeper role in the middle of the park for his club.
Wilshere has flourished whilst playing as a deep-lying playmaker for the Three Lions in recent months, and was influential in their impressive 3-1 win over arch-rivals Scotland at Celtic Park on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old has proved to be equally adept in a more advanced role for Arsene Wenger’s side and has featured almost exclusively as an attacking midfielder for much of his Gunners career.
Having chatted to Wenger over possibly lining up in a more defensive role, Wilshere insists he is open to playing wherever he is needed for the north Londoners.
“The formation we play at Arsenal is a bit different,” Wilshere is quoted as saying by the Sport Review.
“I wouldn’t mind playing it at Arsenal and I’ve already spoke to the manager about it but he doesn’t see me playing that role just yet.
“I enjoy my role for Arsenal as well because I can get a bit further forward, but I wouldn’t mind to play the holding role for Arsenal.
“That’s the manager’s decision. At the moment, I think [Mikel] Arteta is injured and [Mathieu] Flamini is playing that role. It’s down to him. If he wants me to play there, I’ll play it.”
