LONDON, November 12-Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has returned to London after undergoing an injury scan with the Spain medical team on Monday.
The 27-year-old was rated doubtful ahead of the Blues’ clash with Liverpool last weekend, but despite reportedly carrying a minor hamstring problem, he ended up playing the full 90 minutes.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho later admitted he had taken a big risk in the playing Fabregas, before claiming that the Spain international would be sent home if he underwent an injury scan in Spain.
Mourinho’s claim would have undoubtedly ruffled a few feathers at the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and it appears they had no other option but to release Fabregas, who did not suffer a hamstring tear but did complain of discomfort in the affected area.
A statement from the RFEF read: “The Chelsea midfielder has been ruled out for the games against Belarus and Germany following tests and an evaluation of his condition that was carried out this morning by the medical staff of the Spanish national team.
“The MRI done this morning in the Sanitas Clinic in La Moraleja showed a clear improvement with respect to the one done by his club on Sunday.
“Although the MRI discards a hamstring tear, the player continues to have discomfort and the medical team considers that his involvement in the next games would not be advisable for his complete recovery.”
