ASBEL-HEATSNAIROBI, Kenya, November 24-World 1500m champion and 2008 Beijing gold winner, Asbel Kiprop, is recuperating at home after surviving a Sunday night car crash along the Kabarnet-Eldoret road.

Kiprop who was at the wheel at the time, lost control of his vehicle at a bend before landing in a ditch after it hit a rock and after being taken to an Eldoret hospital, he was discharged after treatment for bruising.

“He is okay now and there’s nothing serious about his condition. He is resting at home and he should be fine after being discharged this morning,” his coach, David Letting, told Capital Sport from Eldoret on phone.

“He’s okay. He was treated at the hospital in Eldoret for some bruises and allowed to go home,” world marathon record holder, Wilson Kipsang, who accompanied Kiprop and his fellow passenger, James Kangogo to hospital told AFP.

“The car’s front bumper was slightly damaged,” added Kipsang.

Kiprop, 24, successfully held on to his Worlds crown in Moscow after failing to impress at last year’s Olympics due to a hamstring injury suffered on the day of their departure from London.

In 2011, he was finally presented with the Olympics gold medal he won in Beijing after the previous winner, Bahrain’s Rashid Ramzy was stripped off it for doping.

He also won all his three Diamond League races over the distance this season in Doha, Shanghai and Monaco.
